Online Counselling for Clients in Rural Areas
Almost 1 in 5 people in Scotland live in a rural area. If you live in a rural area you may find it difficult to access counselling because facilities are limited and waiting lists long. The organisation Rural Mental Health Matters notes that this lack of support has led to “a culture of self- reliance and stoicism towards mental health issues”.
While such qualities may seem admirable they can lead to people never seeking help when they desperately need it.
Online counselling may be the only way for some people to access the support that they need.
I have experience of providing online counselling to people living in rural and island settings throughout Scotland.
